PORTLAND, Ore. – Nov. 16, 2021 – Survey findings released today by HealthSparq highlight new insights about the healthcare system’s move toward better payer-provider collaboration. The survey shares the perspectives of 100 health system and hospital executives from across the country on the biggest challenges they are facing and what they see as key areas for collaboration with health plans.
The new insights shared in the report can help health plans maximize their provider relationships, with some notable findings including:
- 92% of providers want greater collaboration with health plans.
- 98% of hospitals and health systems want patients to be able schedule appointments right from a health plan’s provider directory.
- Half of providers expect collaboration to enhance the patient experience (49%).
“We undertook this survey to better understand ways payers and providers can come together to better serve their members and patients. Data is fragmented and digital experiences are often lacking, so this presents an incredible opportunity for health plans to work more closely with their provider networks to make healthcare easier for members to navigate,” said Mark Menton, General Manager of HealthSparq. “The data is clear: providers want increased collaboration with health plans. With consumer demands and federal mandates, data sharing between payers and providers to streamline the member experience will be a critical step in 2022.”
Other key insights from hospitals and health systems include concerns about provider data accuracy and modernization of technology. All providers surveyed say they need to collaborate more with health plans to improve the accuracy of health plan provider directory data accessed by health plan members. 45% of providers say that modernization is their most pressing technology challenge, with 41% saying that enhancing online patient-facing experiences is their second most-pressing technology challenge.
